Herbal Healing

During September 2015, the ASA considered, and ruled against a "Prof Shakaa" print advertisement placed in residential post boxes during August 2015.

The advertisement claims that "Prof Shakaa" can assist with, inter alia, ejaculation problems, diabetes and high blood pressure. The advertisement contains photographs of a flaccid as well as an erect penis, which the complainant felt were not appropriate for children to be exposed to.

All reasonable steps were taken by the ASA to elicit a response from the advertiser, but the advertiser failed to respond. Therefore, the Directorate had no option but to rule based on the information at hand.

The ASA ruled that the advertisement was in contravention of Clause 14 of Section II of the Code, as the pamphlet contains explicit and inappropriate pictures which are likely to be harmful to children.

Members are therefore requested not to accept advertising from "Prof Shakaa" promoting any healing abilities that depict nudity.
